A private version of the seminar, for 1 to 4 people, with lunch at Mycena included. The Mushroom Cultivation Seminar is for anyone who wants to discover the world of fungi, see up close how mushrooms are produced and learn cultivation techniques in real conditions. The day begins with a pleasant introduction to mycology: the basics of mushroom biology and ecology, explained simply, for a first picture of how this special microcosm works.

Next comes the way the right environment is created for mushrooms to grow: the materials used, the preparation of the substrate and the role of the mycelium. You see the tools, materials and techniques up close. After a short break the practical workshop follows, the liveliest part of the day: you take part in making substrates from different organic materials and watch, step by step, how a simple mix becomes the base of a mushroom crop, in a relaxed and creative atmosphere with room for questions and humour.

The experience continues at Mycena Gastronomy, where a meal based on fresh mushrooms links cultivation with gastronomy: you taste dishes that bring out the textures and aromas of the species you studied earlier. The seminar closes with a short summary, an exchange of impressions and the presentation of the certificates of participation.

About the Dirfys Mushroom Park

The Dirfys Mushroom Park (Mycena Dirfis) in Kathenoi, Evia, is the first themed mushroom park in Greece. It grew out of the olive grove and botanical garden of the mycologists Thanasis Mastrogiannis and Lefteris Lachouvaris (Agricultural University of Athens), who in 2003 set up the first satellite mushroom cultivation system in Greece and in 2006 the first organised shiitake production unit in the country. Today the estate of seven stremmata hosts the mushroom farm, the themed park and the Mycena restaurant, where the menu is built around their own mushrooms and products of the island.
