Skoumpris Winery is a small family winery in Agios Nikolaos, on the Lelantine Plain of Evia, 10 minutes from Chalkida and 5 minutes from Lefkandi beach, about an hour and a half from Athens. The family has grown vines here for decades, and today the young winemaker Spyros Skoumpris, who studied viticulture and oenology in Nemea, makes high-quality, limited-production wines.
On the visit you are shown around the winery, which stands next to a restored early 19th-century mud-brick building that now serves as a showroom. You walk through the vineyard and hear the family’s philosophy, from growing the vine to the wine in your glass.
The visit ends with a tasting in the green courtyard of the winery, right next to the vines. Their vineyards, on the sandy clay soil of the Lelantine Plain, grow native and international varieties such as Savatiano, Malagousia, Moschofilero, Muscat, Vradiano, Ritino, Merlot, Syrah and Grenache rouge.
