At the KOUKOULI silk farm, at the foot of Mount Belles in Makrinitsa near Serres, Anna Kaltsidou makes jewellery and decorative pieces by hand from the cocoons of her own silkworms. In the workshop you learn from Anna herself how a silk cocoon becomes a piece of jewellery or a decoration, and you make your own.
The cocoons are dyed twice, once inside and once outside, cut into the shape of a flower and decorated with gold thread and semi-precious stones. When you leave, you take what you made with you.
The estate also has a cafe and sweet shop with handmade spoon sweets and a showroom with silk scarves, jewellery and decorative pieces made of silk.
