At the KOUKOULI silk farm, at the foot of Mount Belles in Makrinitsa near Serres, Anna Kaltsidou does not only raise silkworms, she also dyes the silk with natural materials. In the natural dyeing workshop you learn from Anna herself how silk is dyed with natural dyes and how leaves, flowers and wildflowers are printed onto the fabric using eco printing and bundle dyeing techniques.
Each leaf, blossom or herb is placed one by one on the silk and gives its own shade, depending on the season and on whether it is fresh or dried. That is why every piece comes out unique. When you leave, you take the silk fabric you dyed yourself with you.
The estate also has a cafe and sweet shop with handmade spoon sweets and a showroom with silk scarves, jewellery and decorative pieces dyed with natural materials.
