The main points of the route:
Board the traditional priari and, with the fisherman as your guide, cross a landscape of endless beauty.
Get to know the rare ecosystem in the company of an environmental scientist.
Fish with a hand net at the fishermen’s ivari (fish trap) and learn about a special tool, the stafnokari, part of our intangible cultural heritage.
Observe rare bird species that find shelter and nesting grounds on the islets.
Become part of history on the islet of Kleisova.

Start of the boat trip and introduction to the ecosystem
Our trip on the traditional priari starts from Agia Triada beach, a strip of earth inside the lagoon. The environmental scientist accompanying us introduces the unique ecosystem from antiquity to the present day.

Discovering life in the lagoon
Crossing the shallow waters of Kleisova with special equipment, we look for the winged neighbours of the fishermen, rare and common, who share the fruits of the lagoon (herons, Dalmatian pelicans, flamingos, terns and others).

Traditional fishing with a hand net at the ivaria
We follow the path of the fish to the traditional ivaria (fish traps) and catch our own with a hand net. We also get to know the stafnokari, a fishing tool that belongs to our intangible cultural heritage.

Cultural identity and memory of Mesolonghi
A special experience is the stop at the historic islet of Kleisova, with the chapel of Agia Triada and the monument to the fallen, an emblematic witness of the battle fought during the siege of Mesolonghi and of the unbreakable bond between the city’s history and the lagoon. A strong dose of the cultural identity of Mesolonghi.
