Villa Stefania Dream is a family-run guesthouse in the village of Erfoi near Rethymno, with a garden, a vineyard and views over the Cretan countryside. Here Cretan hospitality starts in the garden and ends around a big table.
The day begins with a warm welcome and a few olives to open the appetite. Then we head to the garden, where you pick seasonal fruit, fresh vegetables and aromatic herbs for the cooking.
With your basket full you move into the kitchen. A local cook shows you step by step classic Cretan dishes such as dolmadakia (stuffed vine leaves), slow-roasted lamb or kalitsounia (small cheese pies). You knead traditional Cretan bread by hand and make cocktails with local spirits, fruit and herbs while the food simmers.
When everything is ready, we sit down to a relaxed meal with what you cooked. The day ends with coffee or local wine by the pool or in the shade of the vines.
