A private version of the foraging walk, for 2 to 6 people with the mycologist just for your group. This experience is for those who love nature and the search for mushrooms in the forest. It starts at the Dirfys Mushroom Park, where the mycologist of the team presents the world of wild and cultivated mushrooms: their biology and ecology, the conditions on Mount Dirfys and the basic rules of safe identification and collection.

After a walk through the Park and a short presentation of the main species of the area, the outing continues to the foothills of Mount Dirfys with an organised walk to selected spots with a special microclimate. Along the way you look for wild mushrooms, learn the rules of safe collection and practise identifying species. Back at the Park, the finds are examined, discussed and recorded.

The day ends with a meal at the Mycena Dirfis restaurant, with dishes inspired by the flavours of mushrooms and selected ingredients of the region. Linking the foraging with the local gastronomy gives the experience its special, authentic character.

About the Dirfys Mushroom Park

The Dirfys Mushroom Park (Mycena Dirfis) in Kathenoi, Evia, is the first themed mushroom park in Greece. It grew out of the olive grove and botanical garden of the mycologists Thanasis Mastrogiannis and Lefteris Lachouvaris (Agricultural University of Athens), who in 2003 set up the first satellite mushroom cultivation system in Greece and in 2006 the first organised shiitake production unit in the country. Today the estate of seven stremmata hosts the mushroom farm, the themed park and the Mycena restaurant, where the menu is built around their own mushrooms and products of the island.
